Our partners around the region

ISF works in all its projects in collaboration with local organizations and civil society. This way, we ensure that change moves from ivory towers directly to communities, and the local civil society gets an opportunity to strengthen.

Regions we work in

Since 2022, we have focused our work on East Africa, seeking synergies between programme countries, fostering a deeper understanding of the region, strengthening collaboration with local and regional actors, and maximizing cost-efficiency through shared development approaches and capacity-building efforts. This focus includes prioritizing least developed countries and fragile contexts.

In our programme areas, women face various forms of gender-based discrimination and constraints that limit their civil, cultural, economic, political, social, and bodily rights. Rigid gender roles not only hinder women’s opportunities in productive work but also reinforce power imbalances that contribute to the normalization of violence against women and girls (VAWG).

Development programme

Our 2026–2029 development cooperation programme promotes women’s and girls’ agency and power over their bodies and lives in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somaliland.

The programme aims to improve the lives of nearly 120,000 women and girls and builds on our past achievements and lessons learned. It responds to pressing challenges at a time when equality and women’s status are at risk of deteriorating in many parts of the world.
